As an ex-government agent, her body has been trained to the level of an Olympic-level athlete. Armed with a specially designed crossbow, Huntress possesses uncanny archery skills. Thanks to her various contacts within the United States government, Huntress also has access to top-secret information and classified government files.
(All-Spy Comics #69) - A rogue ex-government solo agent (although that may merely have been a cover story for a deep mission), the Huntress used her specialized skills and training as an agent for hire. Huntress' crossbow was developed for her by Hawkeye (Clint Archer) of the Judgment League: Avengers, who somehow got the impression that Carol desired more than archery lessons. But Hawkeye was wrong -- Huntress wanted his best work, and she knew how to get it.
(Legends of the Dark Claw#1 (bts)) - In search of the feral New Gotham madman known as the Hyena (Creed H. Quinn), Huntress found that Hyena's history was intertwined with the history of Logan Wayne, a prominent New Gotham techno-wizard, painter, sportsman, and walking enigma. To find out more about Hyena, Huntress called in her markers at Langley Air Force Base and used her push at the Department of Defense to access the banks of the super computers under Maryland. Searching the classified databanks, Huntress learned that Creed H. Quinn, Logan Wayne, and four other individuals went into a secret Canadian project years ago -- back when there was still a secret empire to battle. Since all of the records of the secret project had been conveniently destroyed, Huntress assumed that something went terribly wrong at the project. In order to learn more about the Hyena, Huntress accessed Logan Wayne's dossier in the "top secret archives," and set out to snoop around Logan Wayne's New Gotham penthouse loft.
(Legends of the Dark Claw#1) - "Through a Glass Darkly" - While the New Gotham vigilante known as Dark Claw (Logan Wayne) was battling the maniacal Hyena at the Gotham Gazette Printing Plant, Huntress was breaking into the penthouse loft of Logan Wayne in the artsy-trendy section of New Gotham. At 11:45 PM, Huntress cut through one of penthouse's windows and disabled its alarm system. She walked through Logan Wayne's art studio and up the staircase that led to the master bedroom.
In the master bedroom, the photos on Logan Wayne's dresser confused Huntress. According to what little information there was in his dossier, Logan was an orphan raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. But here there were photos of Logan as a child with what appeared to be his parents standing in front of a luxury apartment building in New Gotham, which contradicted the information in his dossier. Another photo showed Logan Wayne in the Royal Canadian Air Force, even though there were no records of his service in the organization. A third photo showed Logan Wayne in Southeast Asia alongside the mysterious Creed H. Quinn, apparently taken before the top-secret Canadian project. When Huntress opened Logan Wayne's closet, she found a full wardrobe of Dark Claw costumes, leading her to the inevitable conclusion that Logan Wayne and Dark Claw were one in the same.
Before Huntress could uncover anything else, Dark Claw appeared from a secret elevator shaft behind the closet wall. Dark Claw knew that the Huntress was Carol Danvers, a rogue government operative. As Dark Claw was deciding what to do with the intruder, Huntress explained that she was initially out to track down the Hyena -- not Dark Claw. Dark Claw explained the project that transformed Creed H. Quinn into the Hyena and brought Huntress down the pneumatic tube that led to the underground Barrow so that he could tell her the whole story. In the Barrow, Dark Claw revealed his personal history to Huntress, who deduced that Dark Claw had first met Creed H. Quinn while serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force.
Suddenly, Dark Claw's sidekick Sparrow (Jubilation Lee), who had been busy hacking into the Gotham Gazette typesetting computer, vehemently voiced her disapproval of Huntress' presence in the Barrow. Dark Claw explained to Sparrow that he could not simply take Huntress "out in the woods and loose her." Dark Claw had deduced that Hyena was at the Gotham Gazette Printing Plant earlier that night to go into the guts of the typesetting computer and interfere with the typography of the newspaper (rather than to plant a bomb as Dark Claw had originally suspected). Accessing the altered headlines for the next day's newspaper, Huntress, Dark Claw, and Sparrow concluded that Hyena was planning to poison the President of the United States with sodium-cyanide when Air Force 1 departed from Gotham International Airport in twenty minutes.
Huntress, Dark Claw, and Sparrow immediately went into action. As Sparrow piloted the Claw Copter alongside Air Force 1, Huntress used her crossbow to secure a grappling hook on Air Force 1's landing gear. Dark Claw then used the grappling hook to board Air Force 1, and eventually saved the President from Hyena's evil scheme, although Hyena managed to evade capture once again.
(Legends of the Dark Claw#2) - "This Claw, This Crossbow!" - Huntress' true allegiances were revealed.
